So I'm off hunting architecture and graffiti in Atlanta, vaguely lost, and I turn around and see this: the info station in the photo above about the Five Points Artesian Well! Five Points is a multistreet intersection that has (ahem) five points. And back in the day three artesian wells were drilled in the area for a water supply.
The well is long gone, but there's a sculpture at the intersection to commemorate the well and the trolley system:
